Have you ever needed a minute or two to stand up straight after sitting for a long period of time? For example, taking a long car ride without taking breaks to stretch your legs can make your joints feel stiff and sore. Maybe you sit at your desk for long hours without taking a break and feel tightness in your hips when you try to stand up.
Whatever the reason is you should know that sitting for extended periods of time can take a toll on your health!
Look at this chart to get a glimpse into what happens inside your body when you "just sit there!"
Once you have read through this chart, try thinking of ways you can avoid falling into the habit of staying seated for long periods of time. Here are some things you can do to make sure you stand up and move around more often.
1. Set an alarm on your phone, watch, or computer for every 90minutes. When this alarm goes off, stand up, move your body, and assess how you feel.
2. Go for a walk in the middle of your day AND at the end of your day.
3. Consider the option of getting a standing desk.
